Why I Said Yes to Double Joy Respite: A Story of Hope and Boundaries

📸 Throwback more than ten years ago: my Living History Workshops & Camps. Every week, kids gathered for a full day outdoors, diving into Medieval times—shields, swords, and plenty of adventure. These were wonderful summers of learning and play. My son is in this picture, along with many kids I came to know and love.
Two of these children had very special needs. One needed a watchful eye at all times, the other required his mom’s constant shadowing and support. The work of that family—anchored in love, boundaries, and steady commitment—was extraordinary. It wasn’t easy, and the challenges were daily, but they never gave up.
Fast forward ten years: I learned this child not only made it to independence at 18 with a job and apartment—he even worked for Tesla in New Mexico. Recently, the news reached me that he got married and is starting a family life of his own. My jaw dropped. What once looked like an endless struggle became a story of triumph and hope.
This is my “why.” For decades, I’ve worked with children and families in homeschooling, social services, and behavioral care. I’ve seen firsthand how faith, persistence, and boundaries can transform lives—even when the present looks discouraging.
Today, through Double Joy Respite & Enrichment, I continue that mission: supporting families with twins, siblings, and children who have unique developmental needs. The need is great, but the hope is greater. And I am called to say yes.
✨ To parents, teachers, and caregivers—never stop believing. A child’s future is not limited by today’s struggles. With love, boundaries, and support, extraordinary stories are written.
💛 — Love, support, and growth for children with special needs,

Diane
